Buyer Beware?

During Summer League play C.J. Giles reminded everyone that he is a very talented basketball player and at 6'11" and 240lbs, there isn't much he can't do on the hardwood. But, he also has a very troubled past and the question is, has he learned his lesson or is he still a problem child, hidding his issues?
If he were a model citizen this is the type of young hybrid PF-C the Pistons could use, averaging 7.2pts 7bds and 2.5blks in 22 minutes per.
Sidebar: He also averaged 12.5pts, 8.3bds and 2.1blks in 27 minutes of play this past season in the D-League.

Garret Siler update

In the T-Wolves final game of the Summer League Siler is 4-5 from the field, 4-6ft for 12pts with 6 brds and 2blks in 20 minutes. Siler played 24 minutes during the contest and finished with the same stat line. He finished summer league play with averages of 8.2pts, 6.8bds and 1.6blks in 22 minutes per shooting .778% from the field.
Summer League is a wrap

The Pistons finished Summer league with a 4-1 record and some basketball minds speaking fondly of the Pistons trio of draft picks from this years draft. All three averaged double digit scoring and shot for a decent percentage. Daye surprised a lot of people with his ability to play inside and handle contact, though he still needs to get stronger because he turns the ball over when bumped and can't finish after contact.

Deron Washington seems to have shown the club enough to garner a contract offer and he definitely brought the house down with several jaw dropping dunks and a few highlight worthy blocks. Other than that, the only players I see getting a call back audition are Jeremy Pargo and Sean Singletary. I would place my bets on Pargo, cause he's the better defender.

Chris Wilcox on Tap?

The most recent rumors have the Pistons offering Chris Wilcox a contract. This is a move that I wouldn't mind seeing happen, he has a nice defensive game and is improving offensively. At 26 he would be a nice addition and add more athleticism to the team. I would still like to see the Pistons take a flyer on Garret Siler. That would round out this team nicely, adding size and rebounding.

Could Garret Siler be the next Pistons Center?

We all know that the Pistons will have issues at the center position this upcoming season if we don't pick up another player through free agency or via trade. But,there is one player that is very intriguing, Garret Siler. He's a 7 foot 290lb center out of division 2 with a career field goal percentage of like 73%. He is currently on the Timberwolves summer league roster and has no way of making that team (they have like 17 guaranteed contracts already). He's currently averaging 6 pts and 7 bds in 19 minutes per, while shooting 65% from the field. So hopefully Joe D is taking in some games other than our own and taking a look at the big fella.

Is It All Gooden?

Is Drew Gooden the next target for the Pistons? Gooden could be a 20 and 10 guy, he has the offensive skill set, but something is amiss about this cat. He has been traded several five times in seven seasons, even though he's a good player. He is definitely lacking on the defensive end and is reportedly a pre-madonna and a bad locker room influence. Is this really the type of player that Joe wants in his locker room? Remember the Answer?

No Blast from the Past

Well, the press releases from the Pistons state that the Pistons are not interested in signing Ben Wallace or Jerry Stackhouse, both fan favorites during their time as Pistons. Though the Ben Wallace issue may be revisited depending on what moves are made during the off season.

Big Mans Market

With the free agent season coming to a slow drip, it would appear that unless a trade is consumated before the start of the season, the Pistons will be light on big men. Though I am not in a panic, there are no impact players at the 4, 5 this off season. Here are the available FA's right now:

Glen Davis
Mikki Moore (Been there done that, no thanks.)
Leon Powe
Aaron Gray
Joe Smith (see Mikki Moore)
Joel Anthony
Earl Barron
Jamal Magloire
Jason Collins
Jarron Collins
Sheldon Williams
Jake Voshkul

Now that's a smorgasborg of talet.....NOT.

Summer's League

Today is a day of rest for the Detroit Pistons summer league squad. But for the first two days of the league they saw nothing but action. Dajuan Summers is showing the skill set that caused Joe D to say he was surprised he was still available in the second round of the draft, notching a game high 24 points on Friday and tying Austin Daye with 19 in his second tour of action. Summers has a bevy of moves, jab step, spin move, drop step, turn around J. You name it he's shown it in these last two games. He's also been a solid rebounder which was a concern coming in and he's shown he has the ability to defend both 3' s and 4's. This doesn't mean pencil him in for the starting spot at the 3 but there is promise here.

Roll of the Dyess

Well, looks like the Dyess era is over in Detroit as well. McDyes has reportedly agreed to sign with the Spurs, ultimately ending his tour in Detroit. My only regret is that the rest of the team wasn't hungry enough to get this guy a ring here in the D. He is a baller.
Aflallo and Sharpe

Sounds like a recipe for a pasta and cheese dish. Anyway the rumor mill is saying that Joe D is looking to move these two in order to clear more cap space. I hope this doesn't turn out to be that big trade of the summer we've been waiting for.

Salary cap is in

The cap is in and it is set at 57.7 million and any team over 69.9 will be paying the luxury tax.
Pistons get their own coach K.

Looks like the choice is going to be coach John Kuester. He is a North Carolina alum, learning the game under Coach Dean Smith and was on the coaching staff for the Pistons when coach Brown won a ship in 2004. Lets not forget that he also was the mastermind behind the offensive juggernaut that was the Cleveland Cavaliers this season. I think this might turn out to be a good hire.
No Johnson!

Well it's officially over. The courtship of Avery Johnson has come to an abrupt end, the two sides couldn't reach an agreement so the search goes on Thibodeau (Boston) and Kuester (Cleveland)are the coaches reportedly on the radar. Stay tuned.

Coaches on the mind.

Things don't seem to be going smoothly with the Pistons and Avery Johnson. They have seemed to hit a few snags and are playing a power grab game, I don't really think Joe is going to continue to play this game with Avery, which means the search will go on. Who would you guys like to see as the new Pistons coach?
What's next for Detroit?

Who's the next player or players on the radar for Detroit? Who would you guys like to see Joe D go after in a trade or league minimum signing?

Hamilton for Boozer in the Works?

The latest rumors are sending Rip Hamilton to the Jazz for Carlos Boozer. I don't agree with this deal personally if you can work out this deal with the Jazz, then why can't you work out a deal with the Suns for Amare' or with Toronto for Bosh? Those two are much better choices and better fits in my opinion. What do you guys think?

Sheed a Celtic?

Rumors on the net state that Rasheed Wallace has set his sights on the Boston Celtics as his next team. Reportedly Danny Ainge and the Big Three came and paid Sheed a visit here in Detroit and he was so impressed that he has now cancelled meetings with all other interested teams with the intent of signing with Boston after the moratorium.

Pistons give Deron Washington guaranteed deal

The Detroit Pistons have given Deron Washington a guranteed deal for the 09-10 season. Does this mean that Joe plans on moving Aaron Afflalo? No information has been released as of yet stay tuned.

If Boston signs Sheed, will they let Big Baby walk?

There have been reports that Detroit has some interest in Big Baby, but he is a restricted free agent meaning Boston can match any offer, but if they sign Sheed to a mid level contract will they let Davis walk, since they're already over the cap and paying a penalty?
Avery Johnson in Detroit today

Avery Johnson was also reportedly in Detroit today with Charlie V and Ben Gordon. The latest rumors are that the coaching possibles are down to AJ and Doug Collins. There are also murmurs that Bill Laimbeer may be an assistant coach on either one of these guys bench.

The UConn Connection

Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva are visiting at the Palace today, Joe Dumars is going to pitch his vision of the Pistons to them in hopes of signing them to long term deals. The question here is if we don't trade Rip can they both work together on the same team, sharing the same ball. A Stuckey, Hamilton and Gordon combination could be a blast from the past trio, think Thomas, Dumars, Johnson. As for Charlie V, he has some amazing numbers from last season and is just entering his prime. When he played thirty plus minutes in 29 games last season for the Bucks he averaged double digit points in all of them, in 24 of those games he scored 20 or more per game and had a double double in 15 of them.
